National Programs

Go-to-High-School, Go-to-College

Established in 1922, the program concentrates on the importance of completing secondary and collegiate education as a road to advancement. School completion is the single best predictor of future economic success, and Alpha men provide the role models to make the case in person.

• School supply and bookbag drives in Bibb County schools.
• Mentoring held in one school across a whole year, rather than an assembly the chapter never returns to.
• Adopt-a-School and Read United, which put brothers in classrooms on a schedule.
• Carried in the Foundation's charter, so it does not depend on who holds an office.

Project Alpha

Run with the March of Dimes since 1980, Project Alpha provides education, motivation and skill-building on responsibility and relationships for young men aged twelve to fifteen, through a series of workshops led by brothers.

• Delivered through the chapter's own Alpha Esquires cohort, so the young men in the room are ones brothers will see again.
• Sessions on responsibility, and on cultivating healthy relationships — personal and professional.
• Financial literacy taught by brothers who do it for a living.

A Voteless People is a Hopeless People

Begun when African Americans held the right to vote but were kept from it by poll taxes, threats of reprisal, and want of information. Voter education and registration has been the dominant focus for over sixty-five years, widening since the 1990s into political awareness and empowerment.

• Registration drives, and phone banking followed up by text.
• Door-to-door canvassing in the neighborhoods least likely to be reached by anybody else.
• Rides to the polls, and a motorcade on the last day of early voting — transport for those who need it, and a visible reminder for everyone else.
• Brothers at Alpha Day at the Capitol, and on the MLK March for Social Justice.

Brother’s Keeper

Formally the A. Charles Haston Brother's Keeper program, and the Fraternity's standing commitment to the quality of life of its own brothers. Epsilon Beta Lambda re-established it, and has had cause to use it. It runs an annual Thanksgiving drive that puts full holiday meals on the tables of families who would otherwise go without, and it is what the chapter turns to when a brother or an Alpha Esquire is in trouble.
